It's
only been a month since the last Prairie Soul update, but
in that short time we've managed to add not one, but two
new members to our lineup!
We're
pleased to announce that Dennis Lawler will be joining
us on upright bass and doing a bit of singing as well.
Coming from a primarily pre-bebop jazz background,
Dennis will impart a new sense of swing to the Prairie Soul
sound. And when it comes to our traditional bluegrass and
new acoustic tunes, Dennis's solid playing on upright acoustic
bass adds warmth and depth you'll have to hear to believe.
Also
coming aboard is resonator guitarist extraordinaire Rick
Mifflin, a veteran of the St. Louis bluegrass scene who
has played with the Smokehouse Allstars among others.
Rick is a triple threat, combining first-rate chops as a soloist,
soulful lead and harmony vocals and a virtually encyclopedic
knowledge of the bluegrass songbook. With such a high-caliber
player in the fold, Prairie Soul is attacking bluegrass, newgrass
and swing with an added degree of authority and authenticity.
Needless
to say, we're chomping at the bit to debut the new five-man
lineup. Your first two chances to witness the new incarnation
of Prairie Soul are the back-to-back Friday nights of March
19 and March 26, when we'll play Third
Degree Glass Factory's Third Friday Open House event and
then at Thurman
Grill and Provisions in the Tower Grove neighborhood.
Both gigs are return engagements for Prairie Soul, and we
can't wait to revisit these familiar venues with our updated
sound and set.
And
speaking of return engagements...
After
the spectacular evening we shared with Salt of the Earth
at the Sheldon Concert Hall on January 9, Prairie Soul was
thrilled to be invited back, along with SOTE, for another
Notes from Home showcase on Tuesday, November 9! There's
simply no better place around to catch live acoustic music,
so it's not too early to mark this concert on your calendar.
The
Sheldon gig will mark the culmination of a busy and exciting
summer gig season that will see Prairie Soul returning to
favorite venues and breaking new ground, as well. Among our
summer destinations are the Laumeier Art Fair (May
8), the beautiful Chandler Hill Vineyards in Defiance,
Missouri (May 16, July 18, August 22 and September 26), Piasa
Winery in Grafton, Illinois (September 19 and October
23), and the Kirkwood Farmer's Market (June 5 and July
24).
A
new era has begun for Prairie Soul, and we want you
to be a part of it! We hope to see you soon from the stage!
