What
a night!
Prairie
Soul's performance at the Sheldon Concert Hall was nothing
short of a dream come true for all of us, and we couldn't
imagine a more fitting send off for Linda, our musical partner
for three years. Simply being onstage -- standing where countless
legends including Ricky Skaggs, Doc Watson and Ralph Stanley
have stood -- was both humbling and inspiring. Needless to
say, the sound was top-notch, thanks to the Sheldon's unbelievable
acoustics and the expertise of Jack Petracek, who ran
sound for us and for Salt of the Earth.
And
speaking of Salt of the Earth...
We'd
like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Lynne, Mike, Jim and
Jake for sharing the evening with us. SOTE
played an outstanding set of well-crafted original tunes featuring
gorgeous arrangements, insightful lyrics and beautiful vocal
harmony. We couldn't have picked a better partner,
and we look forward to more shared gigs in the future including
a possible return to the Sheldon this fall!
For
now, we've got lots of homework to do. Linda's departure means
we'll be taking a long, hard look at which songs need to change
keys, which arrangements need to be tweaked and which old
favorites will have to go entirely. We're excited to face
the challenge, and we're looking forward to reinventing ourselves
as something more along the lines of a pure bluegrass and
swing band. We hope to have a new bassist in the fold
by this spring, but regardless of what happens, we're eager
to forge ahead.
In
March, we'll be playing back-to-back Friday nights -- the
19th and the 26th -- at Thurman
Grill and Provisions and the Third
Degree Glass Factory. Thurman is a favorite venue
of ours, and we hope you'll join what's becoming a regular
crowd at the Tower Grove-area establishment. It's been quite
a while since we've played Third Degree's Third Friday
concert series, and we can't wait to perform again in this
truly unique atmosphere. Join us at Third Degree at 8:00 to
see some spectacular artwork, watch glass-blowing demonstrations
and take advantage of a cash bar, all while soaking up the
sound of Prairie Soul's set.
Prairie
Soul's looking forward to some exciting changes and new experiences
in 2010, and we hope you'll share them with us!
