The
new era of Prairie Soul is in full swing! The last two
Fridays in March saw PS take the stage as a quintet, complete
with dobro and upright bass. We're happy to say that things
fell right into place at Third
Degree Glass Factory and Thurman
Grill and Provisions, where we played for some enthusiastic
music fans who were very receptive to the new Prairie Soul
sound. Simply put, that new sound is more energetic and
more diverse than what you've heard from us before, and
the sooner you experience it, the better. Some of our new
material includes bluegrass and new acoustic music by artists
like Bill Monroe, Tony Rice, and Hot Rize, and in a moment
of spontaneity at Thurman, we even fell into a grassed-up
cover of the Dead's "Friend of the Devil!"
If
you weren't able to make either of the March gigs, or if you
showed up and liked what you heard, we hope to see you at
one or both of our two exciting outdoor gigs in May.
We'll be back at the Laumeier
Art Fair on Saturday, May 8, amid the impressive outdoor
sculpture park and exhibits by local, regional and national
artists. Lots of great acts will play that afternoon,
and Prairie Soul's own set will run from 1:15 to 2:30. We
had a great time at Laumeier last year, and we're looking
forward to another beautiful spring afternoon of art and music
this time around. Another of our favorite outdoor venues
-- Chandler
Hill Vineyards in Defiance, Missouri -- is welcoming us
back only two weeks later, on Sunday, May 16. Aside from the
exciting new sounds of Prairie Soul's performance, from 2
to 5 p.m., there are a couple more great reasons to make the
drive out to Defiance: a stunning view of the beautiful surrounding
vineyards and a selection of truly impressive Missouri wines!
Between
now and May, we'll be working to add some new tunes and new
life to our old set list, keeping our chops up by playing
a private party on April 17. Our 2010 calendar's almost full,
so if you'd like to have Prairie Soul perform at your own
party or private event, now's the time to get in touch!
