Prairie
Soul has played our first outdoor gig of 2010, and
just like that, the busy spring gig season has begun!
The
new PS lineup took the stage at the Laumeier Art Fair
for the second year in a row, and despite a stiff breeze and
a few threatening clouds, we found ourselves playing to a
bigger and more enthusiastic crowd than last year. The new,
high-energy set had most folks tapping their feet and a few
adventurous fair-goers dancing and singing along to the likes
of Tony Rice, Lyle Lovett and Dan Hicks.
Our
new additions -- Rick Mifflin on dobro and vocals and
Dennis Lawler on upright bass -- have done a great
job absorbing the tunes and contributing to the new PS sound,
which now features the interplay of three lead instruments
and a solid, driving rhythm section. We've reshuffled the
vocal duties, too, throwing Ben a few more tunes to sing and
incorporating Rick's vocals as well.
Given
all these changes, it was only a matter of time before we
decided to head back to the studio to record a new demo.
Though we're still in the research stage, we hope to cut three
or four tracks this summer. Stay tuned for details. ...
For
now, we're taking this show on the road! We'll be at Chandler
Hill Vineyards in Defiance, a favorite regular gig of
ours, this Sunday from 2 til 6. Sunday will be the first in
a series of Prairie Soul performances at Chandler Hill. We're
also booked on July 18, August 22, September 26 and October
26 at the scenic winery. If you can't make it Sunday, make
plans to make the trip out to Defiance for one of our future
gigs.
And
for a PS performance that's closer to home, stop by the Kirkwood
Farmer's Market on Saturday, June 5, between 10 a.m. and
1 p.m. to catch a few tunes and grab some homegrown produce,
too. We'll set up in the regular spot, right by the railroad
tracks. We'll hope to see you there!
We're
looking to fill just a few holes in our late-summer/early-fall
gig schedule, so keep checking this site for updates!
