10, 2008: New Dates, New Tunes, New Toys |
|
The summer is yielding quite a bounty of Prairie Soul gigs.
But it's not just the number of dates that we're excited about;
it's the variety, too.
Our
July 27 show, part of Music Folk's Sunday night concert
series, was a unique experience for us. The performance
was an unplugged and intimate affair, and it was a real thrill
to be able to communicate so directly with such a supportive
and enthusiastic audience. Thanks to everyone who showed up,
and thanks to Music
Folk for letting us play a part in strengthening the community
of acoustic musicians and music lovers in St. Louis.

August
2 saw us having a blast at the Ferguson Farmer's Market.
Heat and humidity notwithstanding, we really enjoyed the atmosphere,
the sense of community and--of course--the produce! We're
looking forward to our return engagement at Ferguson on Saturday
the 23rd of August, from 10 til noon.
And
then there's the "big gig."
We'll be at the
Boathouse in Forest Park on Friday, August 29, from
7 til 11, unearthing lots of old songs and breaking in some
new ones, too. So stop by, enjoy a fabulous dinner and drinks
and catch the breeze off the lake as Prairie Soul plays one
of St. Louis' most popular and most scenic summer hangouts.
If
you happened to catch any of the recent gigs, you most likely
noticed that we've introduced a few original tunes into our
repertoire. With the songwriting talents of Rich,
Linda and Ben
at our disposal, we figured it'd be worth a shot to reinterpret
some original material, Prairie Soul-style. Needless to say,
we're pleased with the results, and it seems a few fans are,
too! It's inspiring--and a whole lot of fun--to explore this
new dimension of our individual and collective musical personalities.
We're looking forward to incorporating more original tunes
into our show down the road.
But
the set list isn't all that's changed. John and Ben have recently
debuted a brand-new custom BRW
F5 mandolin and a Jerome
Thibouville-Lamy violin constructed circa 1890, respectively.
We hope you're as impressed with the new sounds as we are!
